About Myself

As you can see from above, I have a somewhat varied background across engineering and business development. That said, I am far from an expert on anything really, and more of a jack-of-all-trades. I love being able to work on both the technical and business side of things. I like a lot of things really, and here are a few of my favorites:

Books. I've read quite a few books, and my all-time favorites include "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke, "The Cuckoo's Egg" by Clifford Stoll, "Rocket Men" by Robert Kurson, and "Masters of Doom" by David Kushner. It's been mostly non-fiction lately, but I have always read sci-fi and fantasty. Open to suggestions - especially hard sci-fi!

Startups. I love building something from scratch, and have been involved in a few startups over the years. I enjoy working with small teams, where I have to wear many hats, and where I can see the direct impact of my work. I really like rapidly switching between strategy, programming, product design, community building and marketing.

Programming. I've been programming since I was pretty young, and have worked with a lot of different languages and frameworks. I've slowly converged to my current stack (listed above), but I still love to try out new things. I'm currently trying to get better at deep learning and data science, as well as data-intensive cloud architectures.

Artificial Intelligence. Like pretty much everyone in tech, I'm fascinated by the future possibilities of AI. I think most people have a too myopic and reactive view of current capabilities, and that the tech will only get better - even if it takes 20 years. I believe countries should invest heavily in AI research, particularly on systems for generating new knowledge. We will see massive industry acceleration once AI can synthesize new knowledge.

Clean Energy. While I don't currently work in this field, I have an engineering background in energy & environmental engineering, and have ambitions to get back into it. I would really love to work with fusion energy at some point. Perhaps on using AI to reach new breakthroughs, and help solve the world's energy problems. Ambitious, I know!

Techno-Optimism. I want humanity to survive and thrive in the long-term (really long-term). To do that, we need to be way more ambitious in our goals, and we must work to raise the ceiling of what is possible. Doing things fast matters, and we must accelerate our progress. We need faster decisions, fewer meetings, more experiments, and more collaboration. We can't slow down to solve our problems, we need technological progress to outpace them.

Blog and Dev Notes

I've started writing a few posts on topics that either interest me, that I'm trying to learn more about, or that I've come over in my work. I am not exactly good at open-sourcing my projects, but I can at least give back by sharing some specific findings / solutions. You can find the posts by following the button below!
